Chiropractic Tips for Weightlifting
When starting a weightlifting program you need to make sure that your spinal stabilizer muscles are functioning and strong. These muscles can be most simply understood by upper and lower cross syndrome.

Chiropractic Tips for Safe Weightlifting
As you can see one muscle group affects other and opposing groups. For example
- If you have weak abs then your low back gets tight eventually, causing pain and/or injury. This also sets you up for problems such as a disc bulge (Sciatica)
- If you have weak upper back muscles you will eventually have neck pain and/or injury.
- When lifting weights you use these spinal stabilizer muscles to protect the spine and thus protect your entire body. The muscles protect the spine which in turn protects your spinal cord and all nerves exiting the spine. If the spine is strong you most likely won’t have problems.
Pictured below the girl is putting her spine at risk in the pic to the upper right. This is do to relaxing her upper and mid back muscles which puts a lot of stress on her back and neck. It also forces her to pick her heels up off the ground tilting her forward. In the bottom pic she again does the same with the weight on her shoulders this time.
This again pulling her forward and off balance.
By performing a pelvic tilt you will activate the lower torso muscle stabilizers.
Obviously you can make these exercises much harder and progressive but for many people these two exercises are a great way to start getting your core muscles activated. This will allow you to reduce the chances of injury and immensely enhance your strength overall.
